Dodge! // 2005-01-25

My muscles are killing me. My back is sore, my arms are sore, my calves are sore. I think I exercised muscles this past weekend that I have not exercised since I was 12. I ache where I didn't even know I had muscles to strain. I've been staggering and stumbling all over the place today, barely able to pick up my feet and walk. In short, ouch.

And why, you might ask, am I in such a condition today? Did I get an amazing workout at the gym? Did I bench press 350 lbs? Did I help someone move all of their furniture up and down three or four flights of stairs? No. I played a few games of dodgeball, foursquare and kickball. I am so woefully out of shape that I can't play kids games without turning into a quivering mass of sore muscles.

Ok, to be fair, my housemate (whose birthday we were celebrating on Saturday at a rented gym, decked out in 70's/80's exercise attire and playing the afore mentioned games) goes running nearly every day and exercises at the gym ALL THE TIME and she's all sore too. I guess our old (?!) bodies just aren't quite as lithe and ready for a good game of dodgeball like they used to be.

Also, I'm proud to say, I was the last one out in our first game of dodgeball. I know, it was always the chubby, shy, pasty kid who was left last, so it probably isn't a testament to my superior (ha!) dodgeball skillz. I guess we pasty kids learned how to survive by being timid and as low under the radar as possible. But hey, I had a great time and I can't wait to play again someday soon! Maybe I should start a Seattle Dodgeball League (and maybe one already exists...). It will be the next workout craze! And take it from me, it's one hell of a workout!
