I like my job I like my job I like my job I like my job I like my job // 2003-12-16 This weekend we had a great office party. I have to say that office politics have not been the greatest lately, and I have thought about quitting from time to time - and yes, I know how hard I worked to get this job and how much I wanted it etc. The thing is, the ratio of work to staff is just out of control - particularly in my department. I guess it's that way in almost all non-profits. I am trying to cultivate a better attitude, though, and the office party this weekend helped a lot. We did a 'warm fuzzy' exercise in which we all got together and wrote nice things about our co-workers. It was wonderful to get together and think about what everyone's dreams are and to think about everyone's life outside of work. It was also awesome to read nice things that people had to say about me. The other thing that is helping me keep a positive attitude about work (despite occasionally having files topple out on me and crush me because I currently have such a towering stack to work with) is that TONS of families are sending in Christmas cards and letters with pictures of their kids. Who can possibly have a bad attitude about being an adoption coordinator when you think about what your work is acheiving. At least I have a job I believe in. Yeah, sure, some of the families get pushy - but if you can remember to put yourself in their place (and help them see your place occasionally) it's not too hard to deal with. I am amassing quite a few photos of little ones I have helped bring home now that I have been there for about a year. All I have to do is look up at my bulletin board and I feel a heck of a lot better. Speaking of my job... we've got a job opening for an assistant position in a different department - so if anyone is looking for a job in this area, let me know! |
